Surfing Heritage Gallery Opens


Check out our new store - The Surfing Heritage Gallery at South Coast Plaza West which is now officially open. The Gallery carries artwork, classic photographs, collectable museum quality surfboards, official Surfing Heritage merchandise and other unique items. Don’t miss the "Surfing in the Seventies" exhibit curated by Britt Tobia, a local surfer/designer and artist. Gathering of the Tribes Dates Announced


Doheny Longboard Surfing Associations annual Gathering of the Tribes Longboard Surf event comes to Church Beach, San Onofre on January 9th and 10th, 2010.

SAN ONOFRE, Calif. –The Doheny Longboard Surfing Association is set to rack up another in a long line of firsts when the classic winter longboard event sets off the Coalition of Surfing Clubs 2010 competitive season. The program always offers a great mix of spectacular competitive longboarding, a variety beach activities and support of several worthwhile charities.
Held at the beginning of the every year the Gathering of the Tribes contest features two competitive surfing areas at legendary Church Beach in San Onofre, Calif. This configuration enables more than 350 contestants from more than 18 Longboard Coalition Teams to be able to battle their way to the finals which will be held in the afternoon on Sunday January 10th. The number of competitors makes this the largest competitive 2 day longboard event in the United States.
In 2009 more than 350 competitors and their families enjoyed the rural sitting of Church Beach, home to one of the premier point breaks in California. The surfing showcased a combination of traditional longboard styles along with newer more progressive moves. The Gathering of the Tribes sets the tone for the coming year of club competitions. “We are excited again this year to host the beginning of the 2010 coalition club series and are looking forward to this years competition” said Mark Calkins, Contest Director of the Doheny club.

Inspired by Bruce Brown’s The Endless Summer, Kevin Naughton and Craig Peterson embarked on a ten year road trip in 1972 that took them to practically every continent on the globe. They documented their surf adventure along way with wonderful stories and pictures that appeared in Surfer magazine during their long trip. Exotic pictures of never before seen surf breaks mixed with stories of faraway lands and cultures transfixed readers and set the course for generations of future surf travelers.
Join Kevin & Craig at the Surfing Heritage Foundation for an intimate evening of surf-travel-adventure stories along with a showing of The Far Shore, a documentary film by Gregory Schell on the duo's high adventures, followed by a Q&A session.

Customs agents inspecting a load bound for the Netherlands discovered a 1965 van that disappeared from a Spokane repair shop in 1974. CHP investigators are searching for the thieves.
