Dale Velzy Surf Classic this September

21th Annual Dale Velzy Surf Classic and Luau is coming this September

The Doheny Longboard Surfing Associations (DLSA) annual Dale Velzy Surf Classic and Luau dates have been selected. Based on twenty plus years predicting the optimum swell and tide, the classic venue will be held on Saturday, September 25th, 2010 at the legendary Boneyard section of Doheny State Beach in Dana Point, California.

Open to everyone who loves waves and good times, the event honors one of surfing’s most famous surfboard shapers of all time – Dale Velzy who passed away in 2005. This is a special program for the DLSA as the club has been holding this classic this venue for over two decades. By design, it is for all who enjoy the same things that Dale enjoyed, mostly having fun with friends and family. It is in that spirit that the DLSA holds this annual event so that everyone can enjoy everything from the surf contest, the luau, Polynesian review, dancing under the stars at Doheny with a live band, and having a great time.

“This 21st edition of the surf classic has a very special place in the hearts of all Doheny Longboard Members. Dale Velzy was a special person to all of us in the club and this program is our yearly tribute to one of the true pioneers of the sport” said Nyles Schafhauser, DLSA’s President.

This year’s event kicks off with the surf contest at 6:30 a.m. The Luau festivities begin at 3:00 p.m. followed closely by the Polynesian review, awards ceremony, raffles and then on to the dancing. It’s great fun for everyone.

The Doheny Longboard Surfing Association is an organization comprised of individuals dedicated to the enjoyment of board surfing in a clean and natural environment. In relation to that philosophy, the DLSA will act as a support group to other organizations with similar views and objectives. PR contact: Denny Michael at dlsa10@hotmail.com

Rainbow Sandals and the Surfing Heritage Foundation team up with limited edition pairs of exclusive sandals.

Rainbow Sandals have been equipping discerning surfer’s feet for over 35 years. What started out as one man’s mission to improve upon the quality of sandals so many years ago has turned into a worldwide operation that has set the benchmark for quality, fit and comfort. Having a pair of Rainbows under your toes is indeed a special place to walk!
Jay “Sparky” Longley, founder and owner of Rainbow Sandals, and a Founding Partner and member of the Board of Directors for the Surfing Heritage Foundation, came up with a winning idea to not only equip a few more surfers feet, but to also provide a direct benefit to the Surfing Heritage’s mission of preserving the history and culture of surfing. Sparky’s program idea was to design a limited edition pair (1,000 pairs) of his famous sandals for the Surfing Heritage Foundation to use to help build its membership program and thus its preservation activities.
“This is a significant contribution to the Surfing Heritage Foundation and one that we are very appreciative to be a part of.” said, Dick Metz, Founder of the Surfing Heritage Foundation. Metz further states, “I know in my travels around the world that surfers tend to rely on certain things they get by on and one of those is a good pair of sandals, it’s the standard by which we all travel!”
In addition to the special Rainbow sandals, the Heritage has created a special membership package that not only gets you the sandals but also provides a Surfing Heritage T-Shirt, a $10.00 Swell.com gift card, a year subscription to Transworld Surf, a 2010 Cooperfish Calendar featuring the boards being auctioned on ebay (20% of the proceeds go to Surfing Heritage), a bar of Sticky Bumps wax, decals and a one year membership to the Foundation.
